Perth Glory and Newcastle Jets go head-to-head in an all-Australian friendly fixture that will take place at the Gold Coast Croatia Sports Centre this midweek.

With Glory’s pre-season well underway, they will look to improve on their performances so far that have seen them register partial success in the previous four summer friendlies (W2, L2). Interestingly, none of those mathces has seen both teams score, with both of the Glory’s triumphs seeing them score 2+ match goals. Tony Popovic’s men have outplayed Jets in all four of their last H2H meetings, beating bitter rivals to nil on each occasion, with three of those clashes ending with the same 2-0 scoreline in Glory’s favor. Still, the Glory’s games have been short of entertainment lately, as seven of their last ten fixtures produced under 2.5 goals, with just one of them witnessing goals on both ends.

Meanwhile, Newcastle Jets have won two of three summer friendlies so far (W2, L1), both of which have seen them beat their opponents without conceding a goal. But, they go into this encounter off the back of a 3-1 loss to Brisbane Roar, which was the fifth time in their last 11 outings that they’ve allowed over 1.5 match goals. The similar scenario could happen again, considering the Jets conceded precisely two goals in six of their previous eight H2Hs with Perth Glory, having struggled to keep a blank sheet in their last 19 H2Hs. But, free-scoring Newcastle side has found the net in seven straight games ahead of this one, bagging multiple goals per match five times along the way.
