Parma vs Roma 14/01/20

14 January 2020

Parma and Roma will lock horns in the Coppa Italia round of 16 at the Stadio Ennio Tardini this midweek.

Although they finished the last calendar year with three consecutive triumphs, the hosts have started 2020 not with a bang but a whimper. Indeed, after a disappointing 1-1 home draw with Brescia, Parma succumbed to a dismal 5-0 away defeat to Atalanta, with both of those matches seeing them concede precisely one goal in the final 20 minutes of play. Also, the Crusaders have endured mixed fortunes in their last five competitive home games (W2, D1, L2), although one of those triumphs was a 2-0 success against Roma. That victory has helped Parma halt a three-game losing run in competitive home H2Hs, as they now have a chance to post two straight home wins over the Rome-based outfit for the first time in the 21st century.

The visitors have, meanwhile, suffered back-to-back defeats at the beginning of the new calendar year, conceding two goals apiece while scoring one in total. But, Roma can draw inspiration from an impressive form on the road (W3, D1), especially considering all three of their previous away wins saw them score three or more goals and concede one or less. Notably, the Giallorossi have broken the deadlock in each of those three above successes, subsequently adding one more goal before the halftime whistle. It will be vital for Roma to open the scoring here, as they’ve failed to return a single point from both away fixtures that have seen them allow the opener.
