Parma vs Napoli 23/07/20

23 July 2020

Out-of-sorts Parma welcome in-form Napoli to the Stadio Ennio Tardini this midweek, looking to post back-to-back wins in the Serie A H2Hs for the first time in the new millennium.

The hosts are on a run of seven Serie A matches without a win (D1, L6) despite finding the opening goal on five of those occasions. Notably, all but one of Parma’s nine league games since the resumption of football have featured goals in both halves and have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. But, the ‘Crusaders’ have failed to pick up three points in their last six Serie A home outings (D1, L5), with each of those defeats yielding a single-goal margin. By extension, eight of Parma’s nine top-flight home losses this season have come via a one-goal margin, which has been true in three of the last four results (win/loss) in their Serie A H2Hs held at this venue (W1, L3).

Meanwhile, the visitors head to Emilia-Romagna on a run of five league fixtures without a loss (W3, D2), with each of those victories producing the identical 2-1 scoreline. In fact, 13 of Napoli’s 17 Serie A trips this term have ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals, with 12 seeing both teams score. Also, Gennaro Gattuso’s men have shown a talent of bouncing back after shipping the opening goal on the road. The ‘Partenopei’ returned a league third-high ten points from eight Serie A away matches in which they conceded the opener (W3, D1, L4). That’s mainly thanks to their aggressive second-half approach that has seen 62.07% of Napoli’s 29 top-flight away goals scored this campaign arrive after the break (18).
