Parma vs Napoli 20/09/20

20 September 2020

Parma and Napoli go head-to-head at the Stadio Ennio Tardini in their Serie A curtain-raiser.

The hosts have suffered just one defeat in their previous four top-flight H2Hs held at this venue (W2, D1, L1) and won both of their last season’s Serie A clashes via the identical 2-1 scoreline each. Curiously, 2-1 has been the scoreline in four of Parma’s five Serie A home matches since the resumption of football in June (W1, D1, L4). Another high scoring affair is very much on the cards, considering 11 of their previous 13 league H2H meetings held in Emilia-Romagna have contained over 2.5 goals. A draw is, however, off the table, at least according to Parma’s home performances this calendar year. Just one of their 11 competitive home outings since the calendar flipped has ended in a stalemate (W3, D1, L7).

Meanwhile, in an echo of Parma’s habit, one of Napoli’s 11 competitive trips since the turn of the year has produced a draw (W6, D1, L4). A clear majority (70%) of their results (wins/losses) during that 11-game sequence yielded a single-goal margin (7/10). The ‘Partenopei’ proved to be virtually unbeatable after taking the lead, though, picking up 11 wins from 13 Serie A games in which they were leading at half-time back in 2019/20 (W11, D1, L1). However, Gennaro Gattuso’s men pulled off just a single triumph from six Serie A away games that were level at the break last season (W1, D3, L2).
