Paris Saint-Germain vs Strasbourg 08/04/19
8 April 2019
Paris Saint-Germain welcome Strasbourg to Parc des Princes for a Ligue 1 clash that sees them chase their 16th league home triumph in as many games.
With a 20-point lead over second-placed Lille and one game in hand, the defending champions have virtually secured second successive Ligue 1 title. The hosts go into this encounter off the back of a narrow 1-0 road win over Toulouse, which was their eighth straight league triumph. The league’s best defense that has conceded just 16 goals in 29 L1 fixtures has managed to preserve a clean slate in nine of PSG’s previous 13 games across all competitions, allowing over 1.5 goals per match only once across those clashes. The Parisians also boast the best goalscoring record in the French top flight having netted 87 goals so far on an average of 3 goals scored per match.
Meanwhile, the visitors can surprisingly reach promotion to Europe as they currently sit seven points adrift of fourth-placed St. Etienne with eight L1 fixtures left to go. However, a poor haul of seven points from their last eight L1 outings (W1, D4, L3) indicates Le Racing are not exactly enjoying a purple patch. Although Thierry Laurey’s men entered this round off the back of a stunning 4-0 home win over Reims, they need something special here to halt a four-game L1 road winless run (D2, L2), with their last L1 road win dating back to mid-January. Another troubling fact for the traveling side is their disastrous road record against PSG, as they’ve lost all nine of their previous H2Hs at this venue.
