Paris Saint-Germain vs Reims 26/09/19

26 September 2019

Paris Saint-Germain welcome Reims to Parc des Princes with revenge on their minds, as the two go head-to-head in the Ligue 1 (L1) this midweek. The Paris giants have suffered a 3-1 away loss the last time these sides met in the league, which was their second defeat in ten top-flight H2Hs (W6, D2, L2).

Although they’ve struggled to impress in the final third recently, the Parisians have done extremely well in defense, as they’ve picked up four straight L1 wins ahead of this game, all of which have come to nil. Both of PSG’s league triumphs ahead of this clash have ended with the same 1-0 scoreline, with Neymar netting match-winners beyond the 85th minute on both occasions. What’s more, it is four wins out of four home outings in all competitions this term for the reigning L1 holders, with Thomas Tuchel bagging 11 goals while conceding none across those matches. They now take on a team that failed to walk away from Parc des Princes with a single point in five top-flight visits with PSG boasting an impressive +11 goal difference from those clashes (GF:15, GA:4).

Meanwhile, the visitors’ struggling from consistency in the early stage of the season has seen them register partial success in the opening six rounds of L1 fixtures (W2, D2, L2). While they proved to be a tough nut at home, Reims have failed to build on a 2-0 away win over Marseille, losing both of their subsequent L1 trips by a narrow 1-0 scoreline. Notably, none of Reims’ L1 games this season has seen both teams score, and none has produced over 2.5 goals. But, along with Montpellier, ‘Les Rouges et Blancs’ are the only team in the French top tier that is yet to concede over 1.5 match goals this term. David Guion’s main worry ahead of this trip could be Reims’ weak displays when away from home, as they’ve pulled off just two wins in their last nine L1 trips (W2, D3, L4).
