Paris Saint-Germain vs Olympique Marseille 28/10/19

28 October 2019

After a 5-0 dismantling of Club Brugge in the Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain will be looking to inflict the third Ligue 1 (L1) defeat on Olympique Marseille when the two sides face-off at the Parc des Princes.

League toppers come into this clash looking to stretch their winning L1 streak to four games and extend their five-point lead over second-placed Nantes. After scoring one goal or less in four consecutive league outings (W1, L1), the Parisians have stepped up their attacking game netting exactly four goals per match in both of their last L1 triumphs, home and away. If PSG win here, it will probably see them open the scoring and keep a clean sheet, considering all five of their competitive home wins this season have followed that scenario. Big odds-on favorites ahead of the kick-off, the reigning holders boast an almost perfect recent H2H home record against Marseille in all competitions (W11, D1). While each of those 11 victories saw them score at least two goals, seven have witnessed them prevent the visitors from scoring.

As for the traveling side, they’ve managed to bring a disappointing four-game winless L1 run to an end (D3, L1) with a 2-0 home win over Strasbourg last time out. Curiously, while both of Marseille’s L1 away stalemates ended with the same 0-0 scoreline, each of their results (win/loss) have produced over 2.5 goals and witnessed both sides find the net (W2, L1). Les Phocéens, however, tend to be slow starters on the road, having opened the scoring only once in five L1 trips so far. Another poor start could prove fatal for Marseille, who have lost four of their previous H2Hs with the perennial champions via a multiple-goal margin after conceding the opener.
