Paris Saint-Germain vs Olympique de Marseille 18/03/19

18 March 2019

Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille are set for a H2H meeting at Parc des Princes as the hosts look to extend a six-game league winning run.

Although suffered a shock 3-1 Champions League home loss to Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain still boast a perfect Ligue 1 home record (W14), being the only team in Europe’s top five leagues to achieve that this term. The undisputed Ligue 1 champions enjoy a free-scoring form having bagged 14 goals in their last four league fixtures. Unstoppable in the final third, the reigning holders have scored 83 goals in 27 L1 clashes – just nine goals less than second-placed Lille and third-place Lyon managed altogether. To make things even more difficult for Marseille, PSG have netted 2+ match goals in ten of 11 of their previous H2H meetings at this venue, while keeping a clean sheet eight times along the way. The Parisians have been brilliant in defense this campaign having allowed just 15 goals so far at a miserly average of 0.56 goals conceded per fixture.

On the other hand, the visitors have bounced back after a turbulent period, racking up a six-game Ligue 1 unbeaten run (W5, D1), with three of those wins have seen them beating their rivals to nil. Sitting fourth in the table, Les Phocéens desperately need to dodge failure here to keep up the pace with third-placed Lyon that currently reside three points clear of Marseille. However, playing away from home doesn’t suit Rudi Garcia’s men, as 77.78% of their total L1 losses have come on the road (7/9). Les Olympiens’ poor L1 road results are closely related to their inability to keep a clean sheet away from home. Marseille have failed to preserve a clean slate in 12 of 14 L1 road fixtures, allowing over 1.5 goals per match eight times in the process.
