Osasuna vs Atletico Madrid
High-flying Atletico Madrid head to the Estadio El Sadar to encounter out-of-sorts Osasuna in an exciting midweek La Liga encounter.
After emerging victorious twice in their opening three 2023/24 La Liga fixtures (L1), Osasuna’s form trajectory has taken a downward curve, with Jagoba Arrasate’s side going winless in their last three league outings (D1, L2). A scoreless home draw against Sevilla at the weekend did at least see them register their first clean sheet in seven competitive matches, which is encouraging, considering they had conceded 2+ goals in three straight games beforehand. However, Osasuna’s home form this season has been miserable, to say the least. Arrasate’s men have won none of their four outings at El Sadar across all competitions (D1, L3), scoring a meager average of 0.5 goals per game. Atletico’s upcoming visit threatens to deepen their crisis, with ‘Los Rojillos’ losing their last five top-flight H2Hs at home by an aggregate score of 15-1.
On the other hand, Atletico Madrid will take this trip in a buoyant mood after thrashing bitter rivals Real Madrid 3-1 in last weekend’s Madrid derby to put a two-game winless run in all competitions to bed (D1, L1). But Diego Simeone’s side cannot rest on their laurels as they’ve blown hot and cold across five competitive road trips this season (W2, D2, L1), succumbing to a dreadful 3-0 defeat to Valencia on their most recent La Liga travel. And while they’ve failed to get on the scoresheet in two of their three away league games in 2023/24, ‘Los Colchoneros’ made history in the remaining one, putting seven goals past Rayo Vallecano in a memorable 7-0 triumph.
