Olympique Lyonnais vs Paris Saint-Germain 23/09/19

23 September 2019

Olympique Lyonnais and Paris Saint-Germain go head-to-head at the Groupama Stadium for the final match of the Ligue 1 (L1) matchday six.

The hosts were held to a 1-1 home draw to Zenit St Petersburg in their midweek’s Champions League opener, which was their third consecutive stalemate in all competitions – second that has ended with the same 1-1 scoreline. Although they’ve started the new L1 campaign off on the right foot, securing back-to-back wins over Angers and AS Monaco with a stunning +9 goal difference (GF: 9 GA:0), Les Gones come into this fixture after failing to pick up a win in three successive league outings (D2, L1). Although Sylvinho can’t be happy about his team’s performances lately, Lyon’s recent home H2H record against PSG can encourage him, as they’ve pulled off three wins in their last four L1 home clashes with the Parisians (W3, L1).

Meanwhile, the reigning L1 holders brushed Real Madrid aside 3-0 in their own Champions League curtain-raiser, stretching their winning run in all competitions to four games. Notably, none of those matches have seen PSG concede a goal while three witnessed them net two or more. But, taking into account their home results from the final stage of last season, the Parisians have suffered five defeats in their previous seven L1 trips (W2, L5), with six of those games featuring over 2.5 goals and seeing both teams score. Although it seems highly unlikely that Thomas Tuchel’s men won’t concede here, PSG’s clean slate in this clash is still on the cards. When they win away from home they tend to do it with a blank sheet. Six of their seven L1 away wins since the turn of the year have been accompanied by a clean sheet, with PSG restricting their rivals to just one goal in the one remaining triumph.
