Olympique Lyonnais vs Nantes 28/09/19

28 September 2019

Olympique Lyonnais and Nantes go head-to-head at the Groupama Stadium, with the hosts chasing their first Ligue 1 (L1) triumph since mid-August.

A strong start to the season now looks like a distant memory (W2), as the hosts failed to pick up all three points in the last five L1 outings (D3, L2). Interestingly, while both of Lyon’s defeats in that period ended with the identical 1-0 scoreline, two of those three stalemates have finished with the same 2-2 scoreline, with Les Gones blowing a one-goal lead in the last five minutes on both occasions. A home clash with Nantes may have arrived in the best possible moment for Sylvinho’s side to try to battle their way out of a severe crisis. Lyon won ten of their previous 11 L1 H2Hs at this venue (W10, D1), with seven of those triumphs seeing them beat Nantes by a margin of at least two goals.

Meanwhile, the visitors have bounced back after a slow start (D1, L1), securing four wins in the subsequent five L1 fixtures (W4, L1). Curiously, while both of their league losses this term ended with the same 2-1 scoreline, three of their four L1 wins have finished with the identical 1-0 scoreline. What’s more, all three of their L1 trips this campaign ended with the 2-1 scoreline (W1, L2), with Nantes breaking the deadlock twice in the process. Far more comfortable when at home, Les Canaris pulled off just two wins in their last eight L1 away games (W2, D2, L4), with all of their results in that period being settled by a narrow one-goal margin.
