Oita Trinita and Kashiwa Reysol will face off against each other in the J1 League showdown for the first time since 2013, as the two teams are set to meet at the Oita Bank Dome this weekend.

The hosts have gone from five consecutive league defeats to two straight games without a loss (W1, D1), but a lack of firepower up front remains a sticking point. Indeed, Tomohiro Katanosaka’s players have netted under 1.5 goals in seven of their last eight J1 League matches, which has been true in nine of their previous competitive H2H clashes against Kashiwa (W2, D2, L5). In turn, Oita have scored one goal or less in their last three top-flight home outings, with two of the three goals they racked up across those meetings arriving in the opening half an hour. Yet, three of their four home J1 League results (wins/losses) this term have yielded a full-time margin of at least two goals (W2, L2). 

Meanwhile, the visitors secured 3-2 away win over Vissel Kobe in a five-game thriller last time out to bring a two-game winless league run to a halt (D1, L1). It now means that all three of their previous competitive fixtures have featured over 3.5 goals and both sides hitting the net (W2, L1). Additionally, three of Kashiwa’s five J1 League trips this season have produced four goals or more, with Nelsinho Baptista’s team avoiding defeat in the last four (W3, D1). The ‘Aurinegro’ usually turn on their killer instinct after the break, with the vast majority (85.71%) of their J1 League away goals scored so far arriving in the second half of play (6/7).
