Nurnberg vs Borussia Dortmund 19/02/19

19 February 2019

Dead-last Nurnberg welcome the Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund to the Max-Morlock-Stadion in a match that will be equally important for both sides.

Rooted to the bottom of the table as the only team with two wins after 21 Bundesliga fixtures, the hosts seem to be on their way of returning to the Bundesliga 2 a year after securing the top-flight promotion. A disastrous haul of four points in their last 15 league outings currently sees the returnees residing six points adrift of the safety zone. Although both of Der Club’s two league triumphs have come at home, they have failed to wrap up all three points in their last eight BL home clashes (D3, L5). In that sequence, Boris Schommers’ men have struggled to keep a clean sheet, conceding over 1.5 goals per match four times in the process. Only two teams have shipped fewer goals than Nurnberg (46) this term, while Die Legende (17) have scored the fewest goals of all teams in the German top tier so far.

After being held to two successive BL draws, the visitors have to start winning again considering Bayern Munich already reduced the gap to just two points. Taking one of the weakest rearguards in the Bundesliga is music to Lucien Favre’s ears considering his players have scored more goals than any other German side thus far (54). But, a potential setback for BVB could be the fact they’ve pulled off only one victory on their last three BL road trips (W1, D1, L1) scoring exactly one goal per match on each. Quite uncomfortable away from home, the Black and Yellows bagged just 17 goals on the road out of 54 they’ve managed this term.
