Norwich City vs Chelsea 24/08/19

24 August 2019

Franck Lampard and his Chelsea side head to Carrow Road to take on Norwich City in a match that will open Saturday’s Premier League (PL) action, hoping to post their elusive first league win this term.

The returnees have bounced back after a disastrous 4-1 away loss to Liverpool in the opening day to edge past Newcastle United 3-1 at home last time out. Success against the Magpies means that the Canaries are now unbeaten in 11 straight home games across all competitions (W8, D3) when bringing last season’s Championship record into play. Remarkably, the hosts have scored 2+ match goals on ten occasions in that span, keeping a clean sheet only three times though. But, they have struggled to beat Chelsea in all seven of their previous H2H meetings at this venue in the 21st century (D3, L4), failing to find the net four times in the process.

Meanwhile, a disastrous start to the new season has seen the visitors suffer a humiliating 4-0 away loss to Manchester United before playing out a 1-1 home draw with Leicester City. Although they’ve scored just one goal in the league so far, chances have not been lacking for Chelsea this term, as they’ve produced a total of 12 shots on target in the opening two PL matchdays. Taking their last season’s later PL away results into account, the Blues are winless in their previous four PL trips (D2, L2). Overall, it was a turbulent PL season for the Pensioners when away from home (W9, D3, L7), as they’ve finished the 2018/19 league campaign with a -3 away goal difference (S24, C27).
