Nice vs Olympique Marseille 29/08/19

29 August 2019

Rocked by a slow start to the 2019/20 Ligue 1 (L1) season, Olympique Marseille head to the Allianz Riviera to take on an in-form Nice side.

The hosts have won both of their opening L1 fixtures, both by the identical 2-1 scoreline. Taking into account their achievements from the final stage of the 2018/19 league season, Les Aiglons are unbeaten in six of their last seven L1 outings (W4, D2, L1), with both of these stalemates ending with the same 1-1 scoreline. The Allianz Riviera has been something of a fortress in 2019, as the Nice suffered just one defeat in 11 league outings here since the turn of the year (W8, D2, L1). Notably, seven of those triumphs have been accompanied by a clean sheet, with Nice scoring over 1.5 match goals on four occasions in the process. Encouraged by a run of good form, Patrick Vieira’s men will now try to post their first L1 home win over Marseille after two straight failures (L2).

Meanwhile, the visitors have endured a tough start to the new league campaign, having struggled to pick up three points in the opening two rounds of the L1 fixtures (D1, L1). Moreover, Les Phocéens have not only failed to find the net in the league so far, but they’ve barely produced four shots on target across the first two L1 outings. Pressured to start delivering results as soon as possible, Andre Villas-Boas might face an early farewell should his team suffer another disappointment here. The Portuguese coach can only rely on his side’s decent away record in the past four L1 trips (W2, D2), especially as Marseille bagged 3+ match goals in two of those games.
