Newcastle United vs Tottenham Hotspur 11/08/18
11 August 2018
Newcastle United will start their second consecutive season in the Premier League in front of the home crowd, as they look to take on Tottenham Hotspur at the St. James Park. Although the Magpies failed to impress for the vast majority of the last season, especially in the final stage of the campaign, they still managed to finish in the safe region, on the 10th place, 11 points away from the relegation zone, and Rafael Benitez hopes to improve his team’s record this year. However, Newcastle’s results during the summer tell another story, considering they only pulled off one win out of five friendlies they have played as part of the preparations for the new season. Meanwhile, the Spurs, who demonstrated the best football in England last season alongside Manchester City, look to repeat the same performance, as they kept all of their key players, including Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen despite the interest of various renowned European teams in the lethal duo. The only major problem for Mauricio Pochettino in the opening stage of the championship might be the fact that he didn’thave the chance to use almost his entire starting eleven during the summer due to their commitments at the World Cup although Tottenham’s youngsters performed amazingly against AC Milan, Roma, and Barcelona at the International Champions Cup, losing only to the Blaugrana on penalties.
Florian Lejeune, who suffered a knee injury, will be the only notable absence in the home side, while Juan Foyth, Victor Wanyama, and Harry Winks are all expected to remain on the stands for the visitors.
