Netherlands vs Poland

De Kuip is the venue as the Netherlands and Poland go head-to-head in a handsomely-looking UEFA Nations League match-up.

The Netherlands have enjoyed a flying start to their new Nations League campaign. After an emphatic 4-1 away win over Belgium in their group opener, the ‘Oranje’ squeezed past Wales 2-1 last time out. Back at home now, the Dutch will hope to maintain their 100% win ratio in competitive home fixtures under current boss Louis van Gaal (W4). Indeed, van Gaal’s men have been too hot to handle on home turf, netting a staggering 18 goals across those four triumphs while conceding once in return. The Nations League has been kind to the Netherlands, as they’ve only lost one of their last eight group stage matches (W5, D2). Already enjoying their longest unbeaten streak since 2013 (11), the hosts are expected to make it 12 against an out-of-sorts Poland side.

After three consecutive international triumphs, including a walkover of Russia in the World Cup play-off semi-final and a 2-1 home win over an understrength Wales in their Nations League opener, Poland suffered a humiliating 6-1 defeat at Belgium last time out. Interestingly, both Poland’s Nations League fixtures during this campaign have seen the side to open the scoring go on to lose the match. On a more positive note, Czesław Michniewicz’s side had been unbeaten in their five post-Euro 2020 away games (W4, D1) before being humbled by Belgium. It’s hard to expect Poland to stage an upset in Rotterdam, given that they’ve only won one of their six Nations League group matches away from home to date (D2, L3).
