Netherlands vs Mexico 08/10/20

08 October 2020

The Netherlands will entertain Mexico at the Johan Cruijff Arena in an exciting international friendly fixture. It will be a sixth-ever meeting between these two nations, with each of their previous five H2Hs seeing over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet.

Both of the Netherlands’ outings during the last international break yielded the identical 1-0 scoreline (W1, L1), with a home loss to Italy bringing the hosts’ seven-game unbeaten run to a halt (W6, D1). Notably, four of their six triumphs during that seven-match sequence had seen the ‘Flying Dutchmen’ score over 2.5 goals, with over a half (52.63%) of their total goals scored across those fixtures coming beyond the hour mark (10/19). Interestingly, going back to October 2018, none of the Netherlands’ eight home games has ended in a draw (W6, L2), with six of those results (wins/losses) seeing the winner on the day keep a clean sheet.

Meanwhile, the visitors take the field after putting together six successive victories, five of which came via at least a two-goal margin. Quick out of the blocks, ‘El Tri’ have found the net at least once inside the opening half an hour of play in each of those triumphs. Curiously, none of Mexico’s last four matches held on foreign territory has ended in a draw (W3, L1), with each result yielding at least a three-goal margin. In turn, Gerardo Martino’s men have won two of their previous three trips to Europe (L1), both via the identical 1-0 scoreline. Additionally, Mexico have won five of their previous nine matches against European opponents (W5, D1, L3), with each of those nine results seeing the winner on the day shut out the loser.
