Netherlands vs Germany 14/10/18

14 October 2018

After suffering a 2-1 defeat to France in the UEFA Nations League opener, the Netherlands will host Germany at the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam, hoping to achieve a positive outcome and escape the bottom of Group A1.

A fiasco in the World Cup qualifiers has cost Dick Advocaat his job, with Ronald Koeman taking charge of the national team. However, the former Southampton manager is struggling to drag the Dutch side out of a crisis. Although it seemed the Oranje have managed to overcome a difficult period following an impressive 3-0 win over Portugal, two straight draws with Slovakia and Italy have shown they are still out of balance.

Meanwhile, Joachim Low frantically hopes to see his players coming back to the right path after a miserable World Cup performance, where Die Mannschaft failed to go past the group stage, having won just one match, while suffering two defeats in the process. The 2014 FIFA World Cup winners have started their UEFA Nations League journey with a scoreless draw with France, after which they’ve barely managed to beat Peru in an international friendly. Additionally, Germany only kept a clean sheet once in the past ten matches in all competitions, which appeared to be their principal problem in 2018.

PSV Eindhoven’s trio Steven Bergwijn, Denzel Dumfries, and Pablo Rosario, as well as, Club Brugge’s Arnaut Danjuma Groeneveld are set to make their national team debut for Holland, while Manchester City winger Leroy Sane returned to the Germany squad to replace Marco Reus.
