Napoli vs Sassuolo 14/01/19

14 January 2019

Napoli return to action in 2019 as they welcome Sassuolo to the Stadio San Paolo in the Coppa Italia round of 16, looking to stretch a six-game unbeaten run against the struggling visitors (W3, D3).

The Blues are the only team in the Italian top flight that is yet to suffer a failure at home in all competitions this season (W10, D3). Not only they’ve racked up a four-game home winning run, but the Partenopei have scored over 2.5 goals per match three times in that period, keeping a clean sheet twice in the process. But, for Napoli, goals have been at a premium in four of their last five competitive outings. Before a 3-2 win over Bologna at the Stadio San Paolo, Carlo Ancelotti’s men have played out for identical matches with all of them ending 1-0, two in their favor though.

Meanwhile, Sassuolo’s indifferent road form (W3, D2, L4) could be a major influence in this meeting. Their problems with consistency have seen Sassuolo secure two wins on their last six road trips, suffering three defeats in the process. Four of the Neroverdi’s previous seven road clashes have ended with the identical 2-0 scoreline, with three of them going in their favor. However, the Black and Greens still chase their elusive first road triumph against Napoli since returning to the top flight (D2, L4). What’s more, they’ve also failed to keep a clean sheet in all of their six visits to the Stadio San Paolo, allowing over 1.5 goals per match four times during the run.
