Montpellier vs Nice 12/09/20

12 September 2020

Montpellier launch their Ligue 1 home campaign against Nice this weekend, as the two clubs lock horns at the Stade de la Mosson.

A 2-1 away defeat to Rennes in their Ligue 1 opener now means none of Montpellier’s previous six league games has ended in a draw (W2, L4). Those matches have been notably tight, though, as five have ended separating the sides by precisely one goal at full-time, with three yielding the identical 1-0 scoreline. However, ‘La Paillade’ can draw on an outstanding home form in 2020, as they’ve won all but one of their five home fixtures in all competitions since the turn of the year (D1). A rock-solid defense takes the most of the credit for those successes, given they have shut out their visitors on three of those occasions.

Meanwhile, the visitors have got off to a flying start to the new Ligue 1 season, winning both of their opening league matches by scoring precisely once in both halves on each occasion. Bringing the final stage of the last season into the equation, ‘Les Aiglons’ are now unbeaten in six Ligue 1 trips (W2, D4), all of which have featured under 2.5 goals, with both of their wins in that period yielding the same 2-0 scoreline. That’s a sharp contrast to Nice’s recent fortunes at the Stade de la Mosson, though, as they’ve lost all three of their previous top-flight trips to this venue, drawing a blank twice in the process.
