MLS All-Star Team vs Atletico Madrid 01/08/19

1 August 2019

The MLS All-Star Team will take on the new-look Atletico Madrid side at Exploria Stadium in Orlando for a friendly meeting.

It will be the 11th time that the MLS franchise assemble an all-star team to rival European clubs, as they’ve so far enjoyed just a bit of fortune in the previous ten outings (W3, L7). Interestingly, both of the last two MLS All-Star’s games against Real Madrid and Juventus have ended with the same 1-1 scoreline, with the Europeans coming off better after a penalty shootout. Also, just one of the ten MLS All-Star’s has not seen both teams score, with seven of them producing over 2.5 goals. Also, Atletico will be the second La Liga outfit to face MLS All-Star Team after Real Madrid. The franchise’s best squad will be spearheaded by the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney, Carlos Vela, Luis Nani, and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Meanwhile, the Madrid giants go into this fixture off the back of a stunning 7-3 triumph over arch-rivals Real Madrid, which was their third win in as many pre-season outings. Before the aforementioned success, Los Colchoneros have secured a win over the Mexican side Chivas Guadalajara after a penalty shootout and a comfortable 3-0 win over the Spanish lower-league team Numancia. Diego Simeone’s men thrived this summer following a disappointing end of last season that has seen them fail to pick up a win in the final three matches of the 2018-19 campaign (D2, L1).
