Minnesota United vs Aston Villa 18/07/19

18 July 2019

Minnesota United and Aston Villa go head-to-head at the Allianz Field for a friendly encounter that will see the home side looking to maintain an impressive form.

The hosts are enjoying a purple patch of form having racked up a seven-game winning streak across two domestic competitions. Notably, six of those triumphs have seen them score three or more goals, except for a narrow 1-0 home win over Dallas a few days ago. Still, the Loons’ main problem remains a fragile defense that has struggled to keep a blank slate in nine of Minnesota’s last ten games, allowing over 1.5 goals per match four times in the process. As a result, eight of Minnesota’s previous ten games have produced over 2.5 goals, with seven of them seeing both teams score.

Meanwhile, the visitors have battled their way into the Premier League thanks to a 2-1 win over Derby County in the Championship play-off Final. Still, the Villans have endured a torrid time recently (W2, D1, L2), with five of those matches witnessing goals at both ends. But, before a sudden drop-off in form, the Lions have been going from strength to strength, securing ten straight wins in the English second tier. Five of those wins have seen them beat their rivals to nil, while eight of them saw Dean Smith’s men net over 1.5 goals per match.
