Mexico vs Venezuela 06/06/19

6 June 2019

Venezuela Men’s National Team begins its preparations for the 2019 Copa America with a tune-up clash with Mexico at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

The North Americans have struggled to impress in the post-World Cup period, having endured mixed fortunes in their previous eight games since returning from Russia (W3, L5). Interestingly, El Tri have failed to find the net in three of five defeats since exiting the World Cup, while scoring over 2.5 match goals in all three victories in the same period. Mexico’s main problem ahead of this match could be their inability to keep a clean sheet, as Gerardo Martino’s men have struggled to prevent their rivals from scoring in 11 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Venezuela’s struggling for form has seen them wrap up just three wins in their last ten outings (W3, D3, L4). While all three of their triumphs in that period saw them beat their opponents by a comfortable two-goal margin, three of four of their losses in the past two years have been settled by a narrow one-goal margin. Also, La Vinotinto have played out three draws in their last five matches (W1, D3, L1), with all of those stalemates ending with the same 1-1 scoreline. Rafael Dudamel’s players have scored precisely one goal per match in four of those five games, which may be a major setback here.
