Manchester United vs Young Boys 28/11/18

28 November 2018

Manchester United and Young Boys meet for this Champions League encounter in contrasting circumstances.

While the visitors are rooted to the bottom of the table and still searching for their first European success of the campaign, the hosts are sitting second ahead of this fixture, with a two-point deficit to the group leaders Juventus.

Although the Red Devils are not having the best of times in the Premier League, they are about to advance to the round of 16 in the Champions League, as they need to dodge a failure in the last two games of the group stage to make it happen. After a promising start in Europe and a 3-0 win over the Swiss side on the road, Jose Mourinho’s men have failed to live up to expectations in the next two games. Not only Man Utd failed to secure a win against Valencia and Juventus, but they’ve also failed to score a goal in the process. However, thanks to an astonishing comeback in Turin last time out and a stunning 2-1 away win over the Bianconeri, the 3-time Champions League winners now have a 2-point lead over the Spanish outfit with two games left to play.

Meanwhile, apart from a 1-1 home draw with Valencia, current Swiss Super League holders have miserably failed in their remaining three European clashes. For Young Boys, goals have been at a premium up to this point. In all of their four Champions League games, they have scored one goal or less. Moreover, Gerardo Seoane’s players have struggled to find the back of the net against both Juventus and Manchester United, scoring one goal apiece in two meetings with Valencia. On the other hand, the visitors have the fourth-worst defensive record in the most elite club competition in Europe, as they have allowed ten goals so far, having failed to keep a clean sheet in all four matches.
