Manchester United vs Southampton 14/07/20

14 July 2020

Manchester United’s pursuit of the top-four finish in the Premier League continues this week as they welcome Southampton to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils take the field after becoming the first time in the Premier League history to win four consecutive games by a three-goal margin. Quick out of the blocks, Manchester United have bagged over 1.5 first-half goals in each of those successes. The hosts enjoy a superb run of form right now, having gone 17 matches unbeaten in various competitions (W12, D5). Impressively, all seven of United’s previous Premier League wins have produced a full-time margin of two goals or more, with six yielding a clean sheet, too. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are pre-match favorites again, as they’ve won two of their last three top-flight H2Hs held at this venue (D1), scoring over 1.5 goals in each of those victories.

Meanwhile, the visitors take a trip to Old Trafford after avoiding defeat in three league fixtures in a row (W2, D1), all of which saw them open the scoring inside the first 31 minutes of play. Even though they’ve endured mixed fortunes away from home in their last five Premier League trips (W2, D1, L2), the Saints have been an exciting team to watch. Indeed, four of those five clashes have produced over 2.5 goals, with 64.71% (11) of the 17 goals scored/conceded across those games arriving after the break. But, Ralf Hasselhutl has to be worried about his side’s lack of concentration in the second half that has seen the majority (69.57%) of their Premier League away goals conceded this season come after the break (16/23).
