Manchester United vs Perth Glory 13/07/19

13 July 2019

Manchester United’s pre-season tour starts at the Optus Stadium in Perth as they take on the reigning A-League champions Perth Glory in a friendly fixture.

The Red Devils will look to bounce back after a disastrous end of the 2018-19 campaign that has seen them fail to pick up three points in the last six games of the season (D2, L4). Apart from a chance to use the new signings Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka for the first time, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be desperate to see his side improving in the attack, as United struggled to score over 1.5 goals per match in all six of their previous outings. What’s more, they have also failed to keep a clean sheet in that period, allowing 2+ match goals on four occasions along the way.

Meanwhile, the home side has secured a comfortable 3-0 win over the local lower-league outfit Bayswater City in their first summer friendly. But, the Glory’s ups and downs in the closing stage of the last term have seen them secure just three wins in the final seven games of the season (W3, D2, L2), with only one of those matches seeing both teams score. Also, just two of Perth Glory’s last ten games have witnessed goals at both ends although five of them have featured over 2.5 goals. Although Tony Popovic’s men failed to find the net in two of their last five outings, they’ve scored two or more goals in the remaining three, netting a total of ten goals across those matches.
