Manchester United vs Liverpool 29/07/18

29 July 2018

The biggest Premiership derby, the one between Manchester United and Liverpool will take place at the Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Before featuring in their opening International Champions Cup game against AC Milan that they won on penalties, the Red Devils were engaged in two friendlies against the North American sides, MLS club San Jose Earthquakes and the Mexican team Club America, in which they failed to achieve a victory, only playing out two draws. Very much like in the last season, Jose Mourinho’s players seemed quite confused and uninspired in the final third barely managing to create any clear-cut opportunities in those three encounters although its’ fair to be said that they lacked Romely Lukaku and Paul Pogba. Liverpool, on the other hand, had a pretty busy summer so far, as they performed in four friendlies against weaker English sides before making their trip to the United States where they faced off against the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City recording a partial success. The Germans defeated the Reds by three goals to one after coming back from a goal down, while the Merseysiders pulled off a 2-1 win over the Citizens thanks to a late penalty.

Anthony Martial and Nemanja Matic who spent the whole match against the Rossoneri on the bench might found themselves in the starting line-up for the Red Devils, while Mo Salah and Sadio Mane who entered the field in the second half against Manchester City should spearhead Liverpool’s attack from the first minute.
