Manchester United vs LASK 06/08/20

06 August 2020

Manchester United find themselves in a perfect spot to qualify for the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals after thumping LASK 5-0 on the road in the first leg of their last-16 tie going into the return leg that’ll take place at Old Trafford this week.

Manchester United’s trip to LASK yielded the highest margin for the Europa League away triumph in the club’s history, and another landslide victory is on the cards now. Indeed, the hosts have won all four of their European home fixtures this term, without conceding once! Additionally, all three of United’s previous European home wins have produced a full-time margin of at least three goals! By extension, the Red Devils have avoided defeat in 13 of their last Europa League home outings (W11, D2). Moreover, the Premier League giants boast an almost perfect record against the Austrian rivals (W8, D1), having won all four of their previous home clashes against such opposition (GF:10, GA:1). It’s also worth noting that they’ve advanced to the next round in all 17 of their previous UEFA ties in which they won the first leg on the road.

On the other hand, LASK finished top of Group D with an impressive record W4, D1, L1 in what’s been their first appearance in the Europa League group stage. But, the visitors have endured mixed fortunes away from home in Europe this campaign (W1, D2, L1), though three of those fixtures saw both teams scoring and two produced over 2.5 goals. Although they’ve picked up a little bit of everything from their last eight European trips (W3, D2, L3), the Austrian side come into this clash unbeaten in three consecutive such matches (W1, D2). Having failed to progress from all four of their UEFA ties in which lost the first leg on home ground, ‘Die Schwarz-Weißen’ have virtually no chance of making what would be an epic comeback.
