Manchester United vs Inter Milan 20/07/19

20 July 2019

Manchester United and Inter Milan go head-to-head at the National Stadium in Singapore for their opening 2019 International Champions Cup game.It will be the second time that these two sides face-off in this tournament, with United edging out the Italian team after a penalty shootout back in 2014.

After enduring a torrid closing stage of the 2018-19 campaign, the Red Devils has secured back-to-back triumphs at the beginning of their preparations. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men have secured a 2-0 win over the Australian side Perth Glory before sweeping Leeds United aside with a commanding 4-0 triumph. The Norwegian can be more than happy to see his team keep a clean sheet twice in a row after conceding at least one goal in 15 consecutive games. What’s more, United have scored over 1.5 goals per match in back-to-back appearances for the first time since early March, having previously failed to net more than one goal per match on six successive occasions.

Meanwhile, Antonio Conte has secured a 2-1 win over Lugano at his debut as the Nerazzurri boss, but it was the third straight game in which Inter struggled to preserve a clean slate. Still, Inter’s run of good form over the past few months has seen them suffer just one defeat in their last ten outings (W5, D4, L1), with half of those matches featuring over 2.5 goals. Their stubborn defending has seen Inter restrict their rivals to a maximum of one goal per match nine times during that span. Meanwhile, the Milanese giants have been on the scoresheet regularly across the same period, having failed to find the net only twice.
