Manchester City vs Wolverhampton Wanderers 15/01/19

15 January 2019

Manchester City welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Etihad Stadium, as the rampant hosts look to extend a six-game unbeaten run against the unpredictable Wolves side.

Man City have gone from two consecutive defeats to two straight wins, as they now look to post back-to-back home wins and keep up the pace with Liverpool. The Citizens have notched staggering 16 goals in the last two competitive outings, racking up a four-game winning run ahead of this encounter. The reigning holders have collected more points at home (30) than any other side this term, scoring over 1.5 goals in each of their 11 PL home clashes so far. Their tally of 56 scored goals is comfortably the league’s high, with Pep Guardiola’s men averaging 3.36 goals per match. Although won five of their last six PL home games, the Citizens have failed to keep a clean sheet in each, allowing over 1.5 goals per match only once though.

Meanwhile, Wolverhampton’s unpredictability continues, as the visitors come into this meeting after an impressive 2-1 home win over Liverpool in the FA Cup. The returnees have outplayed the league leaders just a few days after suffering a 2-0 home loss to Crystal Palace, which was their second in their last four Premier League fixtures. Still, the Wanderers are unbeaten on their previous three road trips (W2, D1), with all of those three matches ended with both teams scoring. Wolves’ inability to keep a clean sheet has seen them concede in six successive road games although Nuno Espirito Santo’s players allowed over 1.5 goals per match just once in the process.
