Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur 18/08/19

18 August 2019

Saturday’s Premier League action concludes with a massive showdown at the Etihad Stadium, as Manchester City take on Tottenham Hotspur.

The reigning PL holders have swept West Ham aside with a commanding 5-0 away triumph on the opening matchday, extending their PL winning run to 15 games. While 11 of those victories have been accompanied by a clean sheet, ten have seen the Citizens score two or more goals. Furthermore, no team won more home points in the PL than City last season (54), as Pep Guardiola’s men pulled off 18 triumphs in 19 PL home outings last term (W18, L1). Also, Manchester City have won three of their previous four home H2H meetings with Tottenham across all competitions (W3, D1), scoring 2+ match goals in three of those clashes while keeping a clean sheet once in the process.

Meanwhile, a remarkable second-half comeback in the Premier League opener has seen the visitors secure a 3-1 home win over Aston Villa. But, Mauricio Pochettino’s frustration is unlikely to go away, as his players have now failed to keep a blank sheet in 11 of their last 12 outings. Another potential worry for the traveling side could be that they’ve suffered six consecutive away defeats in the PL, five of which have been settled by a narrow one-goal margin. Notably, none of the Spurs’ 19 PL away games last season have ended in a stalemate (W11, L8), with 12 of those matches featuring over 2.5 goals (63%).
