Mallorca vs Sevilla 21/12/19
21 December 2019
The two sides that have had identical returns from their last two La Liga (LL) fixtures (D1, L1) go head-to-head at the Estadio de Son Moix as Mallorca take on Sevilla. Interestingly, both teams also registered the identical 1-0 triumphs in their respective midweek’s Copa del Rey matches, as they now look to carry that momentum into this weekend’s showdown.
Winless in their last four LL outings (D1, L3), the hosts will be under pressure to deliver a positive outcome, as they sit only one point above the relegation-threatened Celta Vigo. Mallorca’s recent struggling is closely related to their defensive difficulties that have seen them concede two or more goals in all four of their previous league matches. In fact, the returnees have last managed to keep a blank sheet in LL in mid-October, allowing at least one goal in each of their eight subsequent league games. But, Vicente Moreno’s side can draw inspiration from their previous five LL home fixtures (W3, D1, L1), especially as two of those wins saw Los Bermellones shut out their rivals.
The visitors, meanwhile, have their own solid recent away LL record to rely on here, having picked up two victories in their last four top-flight road trips (W2, D1). Both of their triumphs during that three-game sequence have come via a single-goal margin, with Sevilla breaking the deadlock in the 13th minute on both of those occasions. But, for the Andalusian giants, away goals have been at a premium lately, as they’ve scored one goal or less in six of their last eight competitive road trips. It seems unlikely that they will improve that record here, considering Los Nervionenses have scored only once in their previous two top-flight visits to Mallorca (D1, L1).
