Mallorca vs Real Madrid 20/10/19

20 October 2019

The La Liga (LL) relegation fighters and the current league toppers will square off this weekend as Mallorca welcome Real Madrid to the Estadio de Son Moix.

Things have slightly improved for Mallorca with a 2-0 home win over Espanyol last time out, but the hosts are still sitting in the relegation territory. That success has also helped the returnees bring to a halt a six-game LL winless streak (D1, L5), and it was only the second time this season that they’ve managed to keep a clean sheet. Frustratingly for Vicente Moreno, four of Mallorca’s five league defeats have seen them draw a blank, with three of them ending with the same 2-0 scoreline. Therefore, allowing Real to break the deadlock could prove fatal for Los Bermellones, who have yielded all 15 points in five LL matches that saw them concede the opener.

Meanwhile, Los Blancos sit top of the table as the only team that is yet to lose a league game this term (W5, D3), and a prospect of maintaining a good start seems realistic. The visitors have won six of the last seven top-flight H2Hs with Mallorca (D1), scoring 4+ goals four times across those meetings. What’s more, Real’s last LL away defeat to Mallorca dates back to 2006, with the Madrid heavyweights picking up five triumphs in seven of their previous LL visits here (D2). Although both of Real’s opening LL trips produced over 3.5 total goals (W1, D1), each of their last two LL away matches have featured under 1.5 goals (W1, D1).
