Malaysia vs Thailand 14/11/19

14 November 2019

Malaysia welcome Thailand to the Bukit Jalil National Stadium for their 2020 FIFA World Cup Qualifying (WCQ) fixture.

The hosts have enjoyed a bright start to their qualifying campaign, securing a 3-2 away win over Indonesia, but they’ve failed to build on that success. Both Malaysia’s previous WCQ matches have seen them go down by a narrow one-goal margin and concede precisely one goal inside the first 45 minutes. Also, none of the Malayan Tigers’ home games in 2019 has ended in a draw, friendlies included (W4, L3). Three of those triumphs have witnessed Malaysia score 2+ match goals, and three have seen them keep a clean sheet too. Going back to 1973, the Malayan Tigers have lost just one of eight home H2Hs with Thailand (W4, D3), netting over 1.5 match goals on six of those occasions.

Meanwhile, the visitors head to Kuala Lumpur on a run of four consecutive games without a loss, friendlies included (W2, D2). The War Elephants sit at the top of Group G thanks to two successive wins in their last two qualifying matches. Both of those triumphs have seen them prevail in the second-half after going into halftime deadlocked. Before a 3-0 victory over Indonesia, six of Thailand’s continental road trips have featured under 2.5 goals, with just two seeing both teams score. Still, beating Malaysia has proved to be a daunting task for Thailand recently, as they’ve failed to clinch a win in three of their previous H2H meetings, home and away (D2, L1).
