Los Angeles FC vs San Jose Earthquakes 03/09/20

03 September 2020

Los Angeles FC will be looking to maintain a 100% home record against San Jose Earthquakes when the two teams lock horns at the Banc of California Stadium this midweek.

Despite winning just once in five MLS fixtures since the resumption of football last month (D2, L2), the hosts have been ‘giving and receiving’ quite a lot. In fact, three of those four matches have seen over 3.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet, with two featuring at least six goals at FT. A potential worry for Los Angeles could be an absence of concentration early on in the game that has seen 66.67% (8) of their 12 league goals conceded at home this term arrive in the first half of play. Interestingly, though, the ‘Black and Gold’ have lost just one five MLS home contests in which they shipped the opening goal (W1, D3).

Meanwhile, a 3-2 away loss to Los Angeles Galaxy last time out means the visitors are no longer unbeaten post restart after previously racking up a three-game undefeated MLS run (W2, D1). Particularly dangerous after the half-time break, the ‘Goonies’ have netted 75% (6) of their eight goals post-restart goals in the second half of play, with four coming beyond the 70-minute mark. By extension, six of the eight MLS away goals they’ve clocked up so far have arrived in the second 45 minutes. However, both of San Jose’s previous trips to Los Angeles have seen them fail to get on the scoresheet.
