Liverpool vs Olympique Lyonnais 01/08/19

1 August 2019

Olympique Lyonnais and Liverpool will face-off at Stade de Genève that will be the Reds’ final pre-season friendly ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.

The French giants defeated Arsenal 2-1 in the Emirates Cup Final last weekend, which was their first triumph this summer following two disappointing losses to Genoa and Servette at the beginning of their preparations. Both of those failures have seen Lyon concede two or more goals and find the back of the net. Moreover, 14 of Les Gones’ last 15 games have produced over 2.5 goals, with 12 of them seeing both teams score. A free-scoring Lyon side has netted 2+ match goals in eight of their previous nine outings, finding the net in the second half at least once eight times too.

Meanwhile, the reigning Champions League holders come into this meeting after failing to pick up a win in all four of their previous summer friendlies (D1, L3). All of those matches have produced over 2.5 goals, with three of them witnessing goals at both ends. Atypically for Liverpool, they have failed to keep a clean sheet in their previous five games, allowing two or more goals per match four times along the way. Also, all six of Liverpool’s games in their summer preparations have featured goals in both halves, with Jurgen Klopp’s men leading at the halftime break on three occasions.
