Liverpool vs West Ham United 25/02/20

25 February 2020

The Premier League (PL) title frontrunners Liverpool welcome relegation-threatened West Ham United to Anfield this week.

Twenty-two points clear at the summit, the hosts are on the verge of winning their first league title in 30 years, as they go into this clash on an intimidating 17-game winning PL run. Anfield has been a venue no side has managed to walk away from with a single point this so far this season, with 11 of Liverpool’s 13 PL home triumphs seeing them win the first half, too (HT: W11, D1, L1). Notably, 57.14% (20) of the 35 PL home goals scored came before the halftime break, which makes Jurgen Klopp’s side the most productive first-half performers in the league. An average of 2.69 goals scored per league home fixture is impressive, but not as much as the fact the Reds have shipped just nine goals here this PL campaign (0.69 on average).

Midweek’s 2-0 away loss to Manchester City now means the Irons have failed to pick up a win in their last six PL matches (D2, L4) and is partly why they’ve slipped to the relegation zone. Frustratingly for the traveling fans, West Ham have drawn a blank in three of those six games, conceding over 1.5 goals in the last four. Additionally, the visitors have suffered four consecutive PL away losses ahead of this trip, scoring one goal or less in each. Delivering action mostly in the second half, David Moyes’ men have managed just three of the ten PL away goals scored before the break, which is why they’ve won only one away first-half so far (HT: W1, D7, L5).
