Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur 31/03/19

31 March 2019

Sunday’s Premier League action concludes with a heavyweight clash between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.

Currently engaged in the PL title run-in with Manchester City, the hosts look to extend their ten-game league unbeaten run (W6, D4) and keep a two-point lead over City although Pep Guardiola’s men still have one match in hand. With a record of 13 wins and two draws in 15 PL home fixtures, the Reds are the only team in the English top flight that is yet to lose at home this campaign. Only the Citizens (53) have bagged more goals at home than the Merseysiders (44) this term, with Jurgen Klopp’s men netting 2+ match goals in 11 of 15 PL home games. What’s more, the Reds have scored over 2.5 goals per match in all three of their previous PL home outings. Also, no team has shipped fewer goals at home than Liverpool (9) so far, with Alisson Becker holding the best PL record of 9 clean sheets at home.

On the other hands, the visitors are desperate to snap a four-game Premier League winless run (D1, L3) and avoid putting their hopes of reaching the Champions League group stage on the line. The Spurs’ inexplicable drop-off in form has seen them allowed Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea to enter the CL promotion race, as they currently sit third with a four-point lead over sixth-placed Chelsea. Additionally, Maurizio Pochettino’s men have lost all three of their previous PL away clashes, conceding exactly two goals in each. Another thing that should worry the Argentinean manager is Tottenham’s recent record at Anfield. The Lilywhites have failed to beat Liverpool on their last eight visits to this venue, suffering five defeats in that period while allowing 2+ match goals on six occasions across those H2Hs.
