Liverpool vs Norwich City 10/08/19

10 August 2019

The 2019-20 Premier League campaign gets underway this weekend, as Liverpool welcome the newly-promoted Norwich City to Anfield for their opening game of the season.

The hosts have already missed out on one trophy this term after being edged out by Manchester City in the Community Shield last week. A disappointing result has coincided with the Reds’ struggling during the off-season, as Jurgen Klopp’s men pulled off just one win in five high-profile summer friendlies (W1, D1, L3). Still, none of those games has been short of entertainment, with all five producing over 2.5 goals while four of them seeing both teams score. The Merseysiders should worry about the fact they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in seven consecutive matches ahead of this one, conceding over 1.5 match goals four times in the process.

Meanwhile, the visitors have secured the Premier League promotion after finishing top of the Championship last term, as they return to the English top tier after featuring the second division three years in a row. The Canaries’ extensive preparation for the new season has seen them play out six summer friendlies (W3, D1, L2), five of which have produced over 2.5 goals and saw both teams score. Norwich now face a daunting prospect of beating the side, whom they’ve struggled to outplay in all ten of their previous H2H encounters in the 21st century (D2, L8). They have not only failed to prevent Liverpool from scoring across all of those games, but they’ve allowed two or more goals per match eight times in the process.
