Liverpool vs Man City 14/01/2018

14 Jan 2018

Having won the first meeting 5-0 back in September, Man City are looking to do the league double over Liverpool in more than 80 years.

Pep Guardiola, who took another step closer to an unique quadruple with a 2-1 win over Bristol City in the Cabarao Cup semi-final first leg in midweek, will need to come out with a masterplan to crack the Liverpool defence.

The Reds have only conceded four goals in their last 13 EPL home matches, keeping nine clean sheets in that time frame. They also have a fine home record against City, winning the last four in a row and unbeaten in 14 past encounters here at Anfield overall.

City’s last win there was a 2-1 victory in May 2003. Leroy Sane was just seven years old then, which very much tells you how long this embarrassing sequence has stood.

Liverpool top-scorer Mohamed Salah and striker Daniel Sturridge are both back in training and Jurgen Klopp could be tempted to hand a EPL debut to January signing Virgil van Dijk.

The towering Dutchman catapulted himself into dreamland by scoring the winning goal against Everton – a FA Cup third round tie – in his first competitive outing for the Reds.

Sergio Aguero has scored 6 goals in his 11 matches against Liverpool, but is yet to celebrate a goal in five trips to Anfield
