Liverpool vs Burnley 10/03/19

10 March 2019

Liverpool welcome Burnley to Anfield searching for a way out of crisis that has seen them end second in the table after a few months of dominance.

An inexplicable drop-off in form has seen Liverpool handing the Premier League top spot to Manchester City as they now trail the leaders by a point. The Reds have failed to wrap up all three points in four of their last six PL outings (W2, D4), while three out of their previous four games across all competitions have ended with the identical 0-0 scoreline. Nonetheless, the Merseysiders are still the only unbeaten home side in the English top flight (W12, D2), and Jurgen Klopp’s men also boast the second-best attacking home record having bagged 40 goals in 14 PL home clashes. Moreover, no team has conceded fewer goals at home than Liverpool (7), with the current runners-up keeping nine clean sheets at Anfield so far.

Meanwhile, the visitors come into this meeting after suffering back-to-back Premier Leauge defeats in which they’ve conceded five goals while scoring barely one. The aforementioned failures have brought Burnley’s eight-game PL unbeaten run to an end (W5, D3) leaving them five points above the relegation territory. Sean Dyche is yet to solve his team’s defensive difficulties that have seen them concede in seven consecutive games across all competitions. Thanks to Dyche’s attacking-minded football, five of Burnley’s previous seven competitive clashes have produced over 2.5 goals, with five ending with goals on both ends. However, the Clarets now chase their elusive first ever triumph at Anfield as they’ve lost on three successive visits to this venue before holding Liverpool to a 1-1 draw last season.
