Liverpool vs Borussia Dortmund 20/07/19

20 July 2019

Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool will kick off their US tour at the Notre Dame Stadium in Indiana as the two sides go head-to-head in their opening 2019 International Champions Cup match. The two teams faced off in the same tournament last year, with BVB securing a comfortable 3-1 triumph. But, the Reds’ H2H record with the Bundesliga outfit can still encourage Jurgen Klopp (W3, D2, L1).

The German giants have already participated in two friendlies this summer. They have hammered the German lower-league side Schweinberg 10-0 before clinching a 3-1 win over the MLS franchize Seattle Sounders. As a result, Die Borussen are now on a four-game winning run, with all of those triumphs seeing them score two or more goals. Also, eight of Dortmund’s last nine matches have featured over 2.5 goals, with seven of them seeing four or more goals. Still, Lucien Favre has overseen little defensive success recently, as BVB conceded at least one goal in four of their previous six outings, allowing over 1.5 match goals three times in the process.

On the other hand, the Reds have registered back-to-back wins over the English lower-league sides Tranmere Rovers and Bradford City in their pre-season so far. The Merseysiders have scored nine goals across those two games, allowing just one along the way. Jurgen Klopp’s men have now racked up a six-game winning streak, netting 2+ match goals in each while keeping a clean sheet on four occasions during the run. Interestingly, just two of Liverpool’s last nine games have seen both teams score, although six of them have produced over 2.5 goals.
