Lille vs Angers 19/05/19

19 May 2019

Encouraged by a tight 1-0 home win over Bordeaux, Lille welcome mid-table Angers to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy looking to seal the Champions League promotion.

The hosts are one step away from successfully completing their pursuit of the second-place finish, as they need to achieve one point in the final two games to make it happen. Unbeaten in their last seven Ligue 1 outings (W4, D3), they hope to stretch their three-game L1 home winning run and post their elusive first L1 home win over Angers (D1, L2). Les Dogues have been impressive at home in 2019, securing seven wins in nine L1 home games (W7, D1, L1), beating their rivals to nil five times along the way. Only PSG have shipped fewer home goals than Lille (11), with Christophe Galtier’s men keeping nine clean sheets in 18 L1 home fixtures this term. Even though they scored 59.68% of their total league goals at this venue, a potential worry for Galtier could be that his players have netted one goal or less in four of their last six L1 home matches.

Meanwhile, stuck in mid-table, the visitors have endured mixed fortunes over their past five L1 games (W2, D1, L2). All four of Angers’ last wins and losses have been settled by a narrow one-goal scoreline, with both of those triumphs ending with the same 1-0 scoreline while both of those failures ending with the identical 2-1 scoreline. Notably, Les Scoïstes have played out five straight L1 draws between early March and early April, with three of those stalemates finishing 2-2. Although Stéphane Moulin oversaw his team pulling off five wins on the road this term, all of those victories have come against teams from the bottom half of the table. Also, they have lost all three of their previous away H2Hs with the L1’s top-four sides, allowing over 1.5 match goals in each while scoring at least one every time.
