Levante vs Real Madrid 25/02/19

25 February 2019

Levante and Real Madrid go head-to-head at the Estadi Ciutat de València with the visitors looking to bounce back immediately after a shock 2-1 home loss to Girona.

A stunning 4-1 victory over Celta Vigo has brought the hosts’ three-game La Liga winless run to an end (D1, L2). They have also ended a goal drought that has seen them failed to find the net in three successive LL fixtures. Considering they trail sixth-placed Deportivo Alaves by six points, the Granotas still have a chance to interfere in the Europa League promotion race. But, although they are unbeaten in four consecutive home games across all competitions (W2, D2), Paco López’s men have to figure it out how to cope with Real Madrid at home. Levante have lost four straight H2H meetings with Real at this venue before playing out a 2-2 draw in their last encounter. Furthermore, they’ve allowed 2+ match goals in every single game in that period, while scoring in all but one.

The visitors’ impressive road form could be a major influence here with Real Madrid securing four triumphs on their last five LL road trips (W4, D1). Although they’ve scored 12 goals in that period, bagging over 1.5 goals per match on four occasions, the reigning European champions have managed just one clean sheet, allowing 2+ match goals twice in the process. Still, the aforementioned loss to Girona has drastically lowered Los Blancos’ chances of beating Barcelona to the title as they currently trail the Blaugrana by nine points. Unable to solve his team’s defensive issues, Santiago Solari has witnessed his players conceding in seven of their last eight meetings across all competitions. Meanwhile, Los Merengues have notably raised their game in the final third having notched 2+ match goals in seven of their previous nine competitive outings.
