Leicester City vs Wolverhampton Wanderers 18/08/18
18 August 2018
The 2016 Premier League champions, Leicester City, have started the new campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at the Old Trafford, but they expect to correct the impression against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the King Power Stadium, as the two sides prepare to face off against each other in the English top flight for the first time since 2004. After a pretty average performance last season, the Foxes have continued to struggle even during the preparation period, barely managing to keep continuity during the off-season. Claude Puel’s team recorded two wins, two draws, and a loss this summer, but the former Southampton boss urges his side to step up their game in the opening part of the season to avoid another mediocre campaign. On the other hand, the Wolves that managed to return to the elite after six years of absence, have demonstrated impressive character and determination against Everton in the first Premier League fixture, playing out a 2-2 drawwith the Toffees at home, although they have had to come from behind two times in that match. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side has encountered immense troubles in attack this summer, which might be their biggest problem this year, but the arrival of Raúl Jiménez from Benfica should solve that issue if he gets the necessary support from the midfield players.
Matty James and Shinji Okazaki are the two players that should skip the match for the home team, as both of them are struggling with injuries. As for the visitors, all key players are fit and ready for taking the trip to the East Midlands.
