Leicester City vs West Ham United 23/01/20

23 January 2020

Leicester City and West Ham United will lock horns at the King Power Stadium this midweek, with the traveling side looking to snap a three-game winless streak in the Premier League (PL) H2Hs.

The hosts have suffered back-to-back 2-1 defeats in the build-up to this clash, conceding the ‘fatal goal’ inside the final 15 minutes of play on both of those occasions. As a consequence, the Foxes have now won only two of their previous seven PL fixtures (W2, D1, L4), with the last six of those matches all producing over 2.5 goals. Also, Leicester’s collapse has seen them go from seven consecutive league home victories to three straight games without a victory (D2, L1). Interestingly, although they’ve conceded the opening goal in five of 11 PL home matches so far this season, no team has rescued more home points than Leicester (10 – W3, D1, L1). Brendan Rodgers’ men will now be pursuing their first top-flight home win over West Ham after two successive failures (D1, L1), hoping to replicate the same performance that brought them a 2-1 win in the reverse fixture back last month.

Meanwhile, a 1-1 home draw with Everton at the weekend now means that the visitors have picked up just one win in their past five PL outings (W1, D1, L3) as they continue to struggle for consistency. Indeed, the Irons enter this round frantically looking over their shoulders, as they sit only one point clear of the relegation zone. Curiously, none of West Ham’s last seven PL away games has ended in a stalemate (W2, L5), with six of those results (win/loss) during that seven-game sequence seeing the winners on the day keep a clean sheet. Furthermore, only three sides have failed to find the net away from home on more occasions than West Ham, who have drawn a blank in five of 11 league road trips. Massive problems in the attacking third have witnessed David Moyes’ players score an average of 0.81 goals per PL away fixture.
