Leicester City vs Manchester United 26/07/20

26 July 2020

Leicester City (5th) and Manchester United (4th) go head-to-head at the King Power Stadium in the final round of the 2019/20 Premier League campaign battling it out for the Champions League qualification. With just a single point separating the sides ahead of the kick-off, the home side need a win to return to the Champions League for the first time since the victorious 2015/16 season.

The hosts have lost two of their last three Premier League fixtures (W1), with each of those results (win/loss) producing at least a two-goal margin, which has been true in all four of Leicester’s home league triumphs this calendar year. The ‘clean-sheet’ theme remains significant, though, considering six of Leicester’s last seven home wins across various competitions saw them shut out their rivals. But, it will be a daunting prospect for the Foxes to pick up three points here, as they take on a side they’ve won against only once in their previous 13 top-flight H2Hs held on home soil (D4, L8). Another potential worry for Brendan Rodgers is that his team lost two of their three home Premier League clashes against the clubs occupying the top-four spots ahead of the final matchday (D1).

Meanwhile, the visitors come into this encounter after racking up 13 league games without a loss (W8, D5) and were winners in six of their last seven top-flight H2Hs (D1). Notably, four of those six successes yielded a clean sheet, which has been true in four of United’s five Premier League wins since the resumption of football. In turn, the Red Devils enjoy a three-game winning away run in the Premier League, winning both halves ‘to nil’ on all of those occasions. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has to be warry of the fact his side failed to win a single away match in which they conceded the opening goal (D3, L6)
