Leicester City vs Atalanta 03/08/19

3 August 2019

Leicester City will host Atalanta to the King Power Stadium for their final pre-season match ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.

The hosts have enjoyed a successful pre-season so far, having secured four wins in five games (W4, D1), although it is fair to say that all of their rivals come from the English lower divisions. For the Foxes, most of the action this summer has taken part in the second half, with Brendan Rodgers’ men leading at the halftime break just once in five games, while netting eight of a total of ten goals in the second period. It was important for Leicester to perform well this summer after Rodgers’ players struggled to pick up a win in four of the final five games of the 2018-19 campaign (W1, D2, L2). What’s more, they have failed to find the net three times across that period, allowing over 1.5 match goals only once though.

Meanwhile, the visitors go into this meeting off the back of a commanding 4-1 win over Norwich City, which was their third win in four summer friendlies (W3, L1). Apart from a 2-1 loss to Swansea, La Dea nave netted four or more goals in the remaining three pre-season outings, conceding just one goal across those matches. Still, Leicester will be Atalanta’s first high-profile rival this summer, as Gian Piero Gasperini hopes to prepare his team as best as possible for their maiden Champions League appearance. Gasperini will heavily rely on his impressive attack that has netted 2+ match goas in six of the final eight games of last season and has continued to torment opponents this summer too.
