Lecce vs AC Milan 23/06/20

23 June 2020

AC Milan head to the Stadio Via del Mare to take on a Lecce side they’ve managed to beat only once in their last six Serie A (SA) H2Hs held at this venue (D4, L1).

The hosts had gone from three successive league triumphs to back-to-back defeats before the coronavirus pandemic froze the club season in Italy as they enter this round occupying a place in the relegation zone but level on points with 17th-placed Genoa. Curiously, all six of Lecce’s last league matches have seen over 2.5 goals and witnessed the winner on the day open the scoring before the halftime whistle. But, far more aggressive after the break, Fabio Liverani’s men have netted 63.16% (12) of their 19 SA home goals scored in the second half of play. Indeed, Lecce are the division’s joint-slowest home starters, having shipped the opening goal in ten of 13 SA home games so far.

As for the visitors, they had won just one of their last five league matches before the pandemic break (D2, L2), scoring under 1.5 goals on four of those occasions. For Milan, goals have been in short supply away from home this season. The Rossoneri have netted an average of 1.15 goals per SA away fixture, notching up over 1.5 goals in just four of 13 league road trips. However, Stefano Pioli’s players often move through the gears in the second half, with ten of their 15 SA away goals scored so far arriving after the break (66.67%).
